The Three Shadows Photography Art Centre is located in Caochangdi which is a migrant workers village in Beijing. The village is illegal meaning that all the houses and businesses are build without having the right permits. The future of the village is uncertain. There’s talk that the village will be torn down and the numerous art galleries will survive but some say everything will be taken down. However people are always building new houses or adding another level. So you can find these walls of bricks allover town. Sometimes they just build a little room around the pile such as in the last picture, I think it’s a toilet.
